ADHD, Autism, SPD and Other Neurological Diagnoses

Chiropractors do not treat these diagnoses!  Instead of treating the diagnoses, we look for disturbances to the child’s nervous system. We often find problems caused by spinal distortions in the upper neck. In fact, this link between the spine, brain stem dysfunction and sensory disorders are common. A thorough chiropractic examination can reveal noticeable spinal distortion, even a reversal of the normal neck curve. That’s why we often recommend a schedule of safe and natural chiropractic adjustments to help reduce the accompanying nervous system tension.

Each patient is evaluated for vertebral subluxations which are subtle misalignments of any one of the vertebrae forming the spinal column or any of the bones forming the pelvis. Vertebral subluxations can occur during fetal development, during the birthing process, or as the result of any physical, chemical, or emotional stress or trauma.  Subluxations can result in a nervous system “disconnect” between the brain and the body. Your nervous system controls every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. These nerve impulses, messages between your brain and your body, travel through your spine.  Having a spine free from vertebral subluxation is essential for optimal heath.  Subluxations can also contribute to an atypical or immature development of the nervous system which can lead to various developmental delays or chronic health issues. Many children with neurodevelopmental disorders and adults with chronic health problems have a depressed immune system; chiropractic care is known to support immune system function. Dr. Colman utilizes a very specific chiropractic approach to ensure that each patient receives the exact care that they need.

Myofascial, cranial-sacral and SOT:

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Trauma (chemical, physical or emotional),  inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.) Sacral- Occipital  Therapy  works by helping the body’s natural healing mechanisms dissipate the negative effects of stress on the central nervous system. This is accomplished through utilizing a physiological body system called the cranio-sacral system, which maintains the environment in which the central nervous system functions. It consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord, extending from the bones of the skull, down to the tailbone area (or sacrum).  The role of this system in the development and performance of the brain and spinal cord is so vital, that an imbalance or dysfunction in it can cause sensory, motor and/or neurological disabilities. The use of such neurobiomechanical techniques allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. By freeing the body of stressors and/or restrictions that produce negative effects on the body, individuals are also able to release emotional stressors/trauma that may be contributing to their current health status.

Neuronutritional Care

Neuronutritional Care is essential for optimum function at the cellular level.  Cells are the “building blocks of life”.  It is said that the adult human body has anywhere from 50-75 trillion cells.  Without proper nutrition and/or with a chronic bombardment of toxins or stress, our cells cannot function properly and may become sick.  This may lead to “cellular suicide” and an eventual breakdown of various body systems.  This process can go on for many years before a person experiences any symptoms!
